CDs donated to CHBN

CHBN recently received a generous donation of hundreds of CDs from the family of a former BBC local radio presenter, which begs the question, what do you do with a sudden influx of hundreds of CDs?!

Presenter and Studio Co-ordinator Mike Brown has taken on the challenge.

"I'm currently going through them, scanning all their barcodes and using an online site to identify which ones have any commercial value. At the same time I'm looking at (and listening to) the content for any music we can usefully add to our already extensive digital music library. The thing is, like a lot of people now, we're no longer interested in the CDs themselves, as our library is all on hard drives now, so any CDs we can sell to make money is great. I think, by the time I've finished going through this collection we'll have raised several hundred pounds, but the commercial sites won't tke every CD so our plan is to hold an online sale or auction for those we hope people will be interested in - there's some big names, great singers and classical composers amongst them."

Mike says there's also some really fine new-age music in the collection too... "Some of these CDs are quite rare, very beautiful, and perfect for our overnight output. As a community and hospital radio station we care about people's health nand wellbeing. Our overnight service is, we think, unique in this country as we broadcast very gentle, relaxing music, and some people find this very comforting. In fact people tune in online from all over the world. So far I've added more than 300 new-age tiles to our Soft Soothing Sounds with artists many people may never have heard of, but they're big in this genre, artists like Terry Oldfield (Mike's brother, Tim Wheater, and local musician Medwyn Goodall, for example. I'm still only about half-way through sorting these CDs out and my flat is littered with piles of them but it's a fun challenge and we're so grateful for this amazing donation."

So look out for new overnight selections on CHBN Radio's Soft Soothing Sounds and for a sale of some pretty interesting and unusual CDs coming soon to CHBN Radio's web site.
